Time Is Now To Support TelePAC

Currently, TelePAC is in the process of raising its funds for the upcoming election cycle.  Last month, you received a letter from me requesting your help.  Thanks to active support from our dedicated members, nearly $5,000 was immediately collected for the industry political action committee.

But the work does not stop there. Property tax reform. Limiting the ICN. Eliminating further inequities in E911 surcharges.

These are just some of the issues our friends in the Legislature have helped us address. November elections are not far away . . . and we need your help if we're going to support friends of independent telephone companies in the Statehouse.

You have likely supported our industry political action committee, the TelePAC, in the past and we are asking for your help again. TelePAC is a joint effort supported by RIITA, ITA and INS. The goal is to raise $40,000 this year for the TelePAC. We can reach this goal if we all participate. That is why we are asking you to contribute and to ask your employees and/or directors to contribute as well.

This year, we were SO CLOSE to the property tax reform and equity for which our industry has advocated for several years. The Iowa House of Representatives and Governor Branstad stood with us in support of these reforms. We came so close thanks to you and your voice of support for our issues. Thank you for that support! However, we continue to have serious issues in front of us in the next legislative session: regulation, on-going efforts towards property tax reform, and a push from our competitors to tilt the stakes in their favor.

Please let either Joe Hrdlicka or I know if we can help answer your questions or assist you with soliciting contributions from your board members. State law prevents the TelePAC from accepting any
company checks, so please make your personal check out to the TelePAC and mail it to 2987 100th

Street, Urbandale, Iowa 50322. Thank you in advance.

Respectfully,

Kevin Hranicka

TelePAC Committee Chairman

Making Contributions To TelePAC -- It's Easy!

Why Should I Contribute?

For our industry lobbying efforts to be effective, we must help to elect and re-elect individuals who understand and support our industry and positions. Building the TelePAC "war chest” is our best way to counter the influence of the larger companies who don't share our interests.

How Much Should I Give?

Some Managers and Board Members give $25 and some give $500. In Iowa, there is no limit on the amount an individual can contribute to a PAC. Regardless of the amount, the money you give to support the TelePAC makes a difference, not only to your business, but also to the customers served by our exchanges.

Can My Company Write the Check?

No. State law forbids corporate checks. Write a personal check.

Who Should Participate in Our PAC?

Any employee, board member, or member of ITA, INS or RIITA can contribute to and participate in the PAC.

Who Decides Where the Money Goes?

The TelePAC Committee includes managers and employees from ITA, RIITA and INS member companies who make the contribution decisions. The committee members meet regularly over the course of the year and more often as elections approach.

Which Candidates Receive TelePAC Support?

TelePAC is non-partisan and supports Republicans and Democrats who understand rural telcos. The TelePAC committee looks at the candidate's position on key telecommunications issues, the telco's relationship with a candidate in the home district, committee assignments and leadership positions.

What If I Already Support My Local Candidate?

We encourage our donors to personally support their local candidates and also support the TelePAC. It is important to build upon the relationship you have with your local legislator. It is equally important to support the TelePAC, which can direct funds to key legislators who may not have many independent telcos in their districts. The TelePAC can also direct some of its funds to your local legislator — all you need to do is call or send a note to the TelePAC Committee at:

TelePAC
2987 100th Street
Urbandale, IA 50322-5501
515-867-2091

Please let us know the name of the candidate, their political affiliation and reason for supporting this candidate. You may also contact Joe Hrdlicka at (515) 867-2091 or jhrdlicka@broadband4iowa.

Is My PAC Contribution Tax Deductible?

No. Contributions are not deductible for federal or state income tax purposes.
